Anweisungen:

  1. Wash strawberries under cold running water and pat dry with a clean cloth or paper towel.
  2. Remove the green top (hull) from each strawberry. For medium/large strawberries, cut each into 3–4 long wedges (about 2–3 cm thick) so the child can grasp them easily with a fist or pincer grasp. For small strawberries, you can halve them.
  3. Check the dates for pits and remove if present. Slice the pitted dates lengthwise and then finely chop into small thin strips or small pieces (aim for pieces no larger than 5 mm) to reduce stickiness and choking risk.
  4. Press a few small chopped date pieces onto the flat side of each strawberry wedge so they stick, or nestle the chopped date into the hollow left by the removed hull if the strawberry size allows. The strawberry acts as a natural, less-sticky carrier for the date pieces.
  5. Arrange 4–6 prepared wedges on a small plate at room temperature. Offer to the toddler sitting upright and always supervise closely while eating.
  6. If you prefer, you can cut one wedge into shorter lengths to practice pincer grasp. Discard any leftover uneaten pieces after the meal.
Summary

This simple, cold, baby‑led weaning snack combines strawberries and chopped pitted dates into easy‑to‑hold wedges for babies 10 months and older. The strawberry provides a fibrous, grippy base so the sticky date pieces are safer to handle and easier to eat as finger food.

Storing

Store chopped dates and whole washed strawberries separately in airtight containers in the fridge for up to 48 hours; assemble the wedges just before serving to avoid sogginess. Once assembled, keep refrigerated and use within 24 hours. Discard any leftovers that have been in the child’s reach or mouthed.

Allergies & Side effects

Strawberries can cause oral allergy symptoms in some children and frequently trigger a skin rash—introduce modest quantities at first and watch for reactions. Dates are high in natural sugars; offer in moderation. Both fruits can pose a choking risk if served in large whole pieces—always remove pits, chop dates finely, cut strawberries into appropriate wedge sizes for your child, and supervise closely while eating.
