Anweisungen:

  1. Prep: Peel the sweet potato and cut into batons about 5–7 cm long and 1–1.5 cm thick; trim zucchini and cut into similar-length batons (you may leave the skin on if thin).
  2. Cook vegetables: Place sweet potato and zucchini batons in a steamer and steam for 12–18 minutes until very soft and easily mashed between finger and thumb. Alternatively, arrange on a baking tray and bake at 200°C for 20–25 minutes until very soft.
  3. Cook cod: Check the cod carefully and remove any visible bones. Place the cod fillet in a steamer and steam for 6–10 minutes until opaque and flakes easily, or bake at 180°C for 10–12 minutes. Ensure there are no bones and the fish is fully cooked.
  4. Form fingers: For baby-led weaning present the food as graspable finger foods—offer the cooked sweet potato and zucchini batons as they are. For the cod, flake the cooked fish finely with a fork and press small portions into thick, short logs (around 4–6 cm long) that a baby can hold; do not compact them so tightly that they become hard to chew.
  5. Check texture and temperature: Test each piece—soft enough to mash between thumb and forefinger and lukewarm. Trim or mash any pieces that are too firm. Offer one piece at a time and always supervise the baby closely while eating.
  6. Serving: Serve the cod fingers and vegetable batons together as a baby-safe dinner (or breakfast-style) plate suitable for baby-led weaning. Introduce the cod on its own first as it is a common allergen—offer a small piece and wait 48–72 hours before offering other new foods.
Summary

Simple baby-led weaning dinner of cooked cod, sweet potato and zucchini prepared as soft, graspable fingers suitable for 4–10 months (ensure the baby shows readiness for solids). No added salt, sugar or seasonings—only the three listed ingredients.

Storing options

Store cooled cooked components in an airtight container in the fridge for up to 48 hours. Reheat thoroughly until lukewarm and check texture before serving; avoid repeated reheating. Do not freeze formed fingers (you can freeze plain cooked cod or vegetables separately for up to 1 month, then defrost fully and check texture).

Allergies

Cod is a common allergen—introduce fish carefully and watch for reactions (rash, vomiting, swelling, difficulty breathing). If there is a family history of severe allergies, consult a paediatrician before offering fish.

Side effects

Choking: always supervise closely. Ensure pieces are soft and appropriately sized; for any coughing or choking, follow infant first-aid guidance and seek help if needed.
